Tracy Hetherington

My work centres around responding to the landscape and natural forms. Inspired by walks through Suffolk and a lifelong interest in marine life and the ocean, creative responses incorporate abstracted forms based on surface, structure and texture. I incorporate textiles in my work with techniques such as felt making, knit, crochet, print, dye and stitch. Found objects form a part of finished works and often serve as starting points for developing ideas. I am currently teaching Art, Textiles and Photography across a range of age groups and deliver creative workshops both in schools and privately.

  1. Educated in Fine Art based in sculpture and mixed media I have always been fascinated by the activity of exploring the properties of materials. Drawing and photography have always fed into my work as part of my creative process. I love to engage with the tactile qualities of materials and sculptural forms.

Current Practice

Workshops in felt making for beginners are designed for delivery to groups of up to fifteen people. These include how to design, plan and create a hand felted panel and ways to extend and embellish the surface. For intermediate felting workshops a range of techniques can be explored such as “Shibori”, “Nuno Felting” and creating 3d felted forms.  These are suitable for smaller groups of up to ten people. For more information about workshops please contact Tracy Hetherington.

A programme of workshops will be available for booking over the summer. Please contact me with your details if you would like to join the mailing list and receive news about these.
